Inspired by the geometric language found from the murals of the Kizil Thousand-Buddha Caves in Xinjiang, Songmont transforms leather through lattice weaving craftsmanship, creating bags where precision meets softness.

Each diamond panel holds its own rhythm. Each woven line connects material, craft, and time.

The Inspiration: Geometry Across Time

Geometry has long been a part of human expression. From architecture to murals, repeated lines and forms create a sense of order, movement, and connection.

For the Lattice Collection, Songmont draws inspiration from the murals of the Kizil Thousand-Buddha Caves in Xinjiang, an important artistic treasure along the ancient Silk Road.

The layered diamond-shaped compositions found within the murals reveal a unique relationship between space and rhythm. Through repetition and variation, the idea of “One Diamond, One World” emerges—each geometric unit forms its own space while connecting with the whole.

Songmont translates this ancient visual language into contemporary leather craftsmanship, allowing traditional patterns to continue through everyday objects.

The Craft: From Leather Panel to Dimensional Structure

A woven leather bag begins with the relationship between material and technique.

For the Lattice Collection, Songmont works with a whole piece of full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and applies a precision slit-and-weave technique. Instead of assembling separate pieces, the leather itself becomes the foundation of the woven structure.

Built upon the original leather panel, an additional woven leather layer is carefully integrated to reinforce the bag's form. This layered construction allows the silhouette to stand naturally upright, maintaining its structure while preserving the softness and tactile quality of leather.

Through carefully measured cuts and hand-threaded weaving, the surface transforms into a dimensional lattice texture. The process preserves the natural strength of leather while creating depth through light and shadow.

Structure is formed through precision. Warmth remains through the material.

Structure Meets Suppleness

The beauty of lattice weaving lies in its balance.

The geometric structure creates definition, while the natural character of leather brings softness and flexibility. Together, they form a design language where strength and ease coexist. Each Lattice woven leather bag is designed for everyday life — carrying essentials, accompanying journeys, and holding moments along the way.

Structure meets suppleness. Precision carries warmth.

Expressions of Lattice Craftsmanship

The Lattice Collection brings the language of geometry into different silhouettes. Lattice Tote Bag, Lattice Bucket Bag, Lattice Shellseeker Bag, each design carries the same woven craftsmanship, while responding to different rhythms of everyday life.

From a spacious tote to a versatile bucket bag and a lightweight shoulder silhouette, each piece presents its own interpretation of structure, function, and movement.
